Long Island's Only Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation Accreditation
Stony Brook Heart Institute’s Chest Pain Center has earned a three-year reaccreditation from the American College of Cardiology. Stony Brook's Chest Pain Center is one of only eight accredited centers in New York State and was the first on Long Island to receive accreditation in 2005 from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. It is also the only accredited center on Long Island that provides percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty).

Stony Brook's Cardiac Surgery Team Earns Top Rating for Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG) Surgery
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at Stony Brook University Heart Institute has received a three-star rating — the highest awarded — from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for overall patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery.  This distinguished award is in recognition of the isolated CABG procedures we performed from January to December 2017. The STS ratings are regarded as the definitive national reporting system for cardiac surgery.

Gold Achievement Award Granted by American Heart Association for Heart Failure Outcomes
Stony Brook University Hospital has received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Quality Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Stony Brook's commitment and success in implementing excellent care for patients with heart failure, according to evidence-based guidelines. To receive the award, Stony Brook achieved 85% or higher adherence for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients.

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Reaccredits Echocardiography Laboratory
Stony Brook University Heart Institute has once again received accreditation for the Echocardiography Laboratory from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), making it the only hospital in Suffolk County to be accredited in all three areas of echocardiography.

Heart Failure Center Awarded National Accreditation by The Joint Commission for Management of Advanced Heart Failure
The Heart Failure Center of the Stony Brook University Heart Institute received certification from The Joint Commission for the management of advanced heart failure. To receive this accreditation, Stony Brook's heart failure team had to follow specific guidelines that demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program Earns National Reaccreditation from The Joint Commission
Stony Brook University Heart Institute was granted reaccreditation for its Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program from The Joint Commission in 2017. The program has been continuously certified by The Joint Commission since Stony Brook became the first accredited VAD program on Long Island in 2011.

Stony Brook Medicine Featured in New York Magazine's Best Doctors Issue, 2018
New York Magazine's annual Best Doctors issue features nine physicians at Stony Brook Medicine. All were selected from more than 6,000 physicians in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. A New York City research and information company, Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., publishes an annual database, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, which lists those whom Castle Connolly has determined to be in the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians.
