Healthgrades has named Stony Brook University Hospital as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery™, one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention™ for seven consecutive years and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care™ for eight consecutive years.

 

Long Island's Only Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation Accreditation
Stony Brook Heart Institute’s Chest Pain Center has earned a three-year reaccreditation from the American College of Cardiology. Stony Brook's Chest Pain Center is one of only eight accredited centers in New York State and was the first on Long Island to receive accreditation in 2005 from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. It is also the only accredited center on Long Island that provides percutaneous coronary interventions (angioplasty).

 

Stony Brook's Cardiac Surgery Team Earns Top Rating for Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG) Surgery
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at Stony Brook University Heart Institute has earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for overall patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG or heart bypass surgery) procedures in 2020. The three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Stony Brook University Hospital among the elite in the U.S. and Canada. Stony Brook Heart Institute received two back-to-back three-star ratings from the STS in 2017 and 2018, and now an overall three-star rating for 2020.

 

Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award Granted by American Heart Association
Stony Brook University Hospital has received the 2021 American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that patients with heart failure receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines founded in the latest scientific evidence. The goal is speeding recovery and reducing hospital readmissions for heart failure patients.

 

Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center Awarded National Accreditation by The Joint Commission for Management of Advanced Heart Failure
The Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center received certification from The Joint Commission for the management of advanced heart failure. To receive this accreditation, Stony Brook's heart failure team had to follow specific guidelines that demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

 

Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program Earns National Reaccreditation from The Joint Commission
As Long Island’s most experienced and Suffolk County’s only accredited VAD program, Stony Brook received recertification for an unprecedented fifth time after initial certification in 2011. A testament to the high-quality care of our patients, Stony Brook's VAD program is the only on Long Island to be continuously certified by The Joint Commission since it became the first accredited VAD program on Long Island in 2011.

 

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Reaccredits Echocardiography Laboratory
Stony Brook University Heart Institute has once again received accreditation for the Echocardiography Laboratory from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), making it the only hospital in Suffolk County to be accredited in all three areas of echocardiography.
