Long Island's Only Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI and Resuscitation Accreditation
Stony Brook is the only hospital on Long Island to have achieved the Chest Pain Center with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) & Resuscitation designation from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the only facility on Long Island to have received the past two back-to-back accreditations.

 

Stony Brook's Cardiac Surgery Team Earns Top Rating for Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG) Surgery
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at Stony Brook University Hospital has once again earned the distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG or heart bypass surgery) procedures. The three-star rating —  which is the highest quality rating  — places Stony Brook University Hospital among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the U.S. and Canada. The latest rating period is from July 2020 to June 2023. Stony Brook received its first three-star rating in 2017, and has consistently received top ratings since.

 

Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award Granted by American Heart Association
Stony Brook University Hospital has received the 2023 American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Quality Achievement Award. The Gold Plus award — received for the fifth consecutive year — recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring that patients with heart failure receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines founded in the latest scientific evidence. The goal is speeding recovery and reducing hospital readmissions for heart failure patients. 

 

Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center Awarded National Accreditation by The Joint Commission for Management of Advanced Heart Failure
The Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center has received continuous certification from The Joint Commission since 2011 for the management of advanced heart failure, and recently received recertification in Feb. 2024. To receive this accreditation, Stony Brook's heart failure team followed specific guidelines that demonstrated a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

 

Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program Earns National Reaccreditation from The Joint Commission
As Long Island’s most experienced and Suffolk County’s only accredited VAD program, Stony Brook received recertification for an unprecedented fifth time after initial certification in 2011. A testament to the high-quality care of our patients, Stony Brook's VAD program is the only on Long Island to be continuously certified by The Joint Commission since it became the first accredited VAD program on Long Island in 2011.

 

Intersocietal Accreditation Commission Reaccredits Echocardiography Laboratory
Stony Brook University Heart Institute has once again received accreditation for the Echocardiography Laboratory from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC), making it the only hospital in Suffolk County to be accredited in all three areas of echocardiography.
